I’m a horror lover, and Mazywood by Tananarive Due has officially raised the bar for horror books for me. This was a fantastic, creepy, delightfully scary read that I could not put down. I can absolutely see this as a Jordan Peele movie some day, and it felt like I was watching it in my brain the entire time I was reading.

Hidden Pictures is the perfect spooky book for anyone craving a genuinely unsettling read. A young woman rebuilding her life takes a job as a nanny, when she starts to notice that the young boy she’s caring for is drawing pictures that are getting darker and stranger by the day. It’s a fast, page turning horror novel and even includes some of the creepy pictures!

We can all agree the KKK is bad right?
Well Ring Shout by P. Djeli Clark takes it to another level. In this historical fantasy horror book, the KKK are more than mere rascists—they are evil demons from another dimension eager to claim the worst of humanity.
It’s got all the satiation of fictional horror while also providing the eerie, spine-tingling relevance to reality.
Perfect for spooky season!

If you like a story that is atmospheric, creepy, and a little bit weird, Mexican Gothic is a must-read. A glamorous socialite arrives at a remote mansion in 1950s Mexico to rescue her cousin and discovers a family hiding something deeply disturbing. Lush, unsettling, and deliciously sinister—I loved every minute of it.

One of the strangest books I’ve ever read—and I thoroughly enjoyed every unsettling minute of it. As my first horror read, House of Hollow perfectly blends fairytale wonder with fear, the grotesque with the ethereal, creating a hauntingly beautiful and utterly addictive page-turner. It’s eerie, bizarre, and captivating in all the best ways!

I don't really like Colleen Hoover books, but Verity will forever stay on my recommendation list. This is the only book I've read that has a jump scare. It's like a much darker, more twisted Jane Eyre, with an ending that still haunts me, years after reading it.

Tender Is The Flesh is about a world where animals are no longer processed and we eat humans to survive. This book is deeply disturbing, enlightening on how far we go for what we want, and how quickly we can change on anything we thought we stood for.
