My November 2022 Reads

It’s the start of holiday season for us at That’s Novel Books which means we are busy, busy, busy. I’m still sneaking in reading time when I can though, and finished 4 audio books throughout the month of November. I’m also nearly finished with The Stand by Stephen King, which I started in October, and look forward to reviewing that for y’all this upcoming month.

In the meantime, you can check out what I thought about these books below! I hope you find some good reads here!

  • When I asked a group of readers if I should read this book over another one, someone said “The Starless Sea is gorgeous and I have absolutely no idea what was going on 99% of the time.” And that is the perfect way to describe this book.

A college student stumbles across a book full of tales, including a story from his own childhood. This ends him on a search to learn more about the book and the world it comes from. The story takes place in different times, in different worlds and with different characters, but it all connects. It’s beautifully written and entrancing and a little confusing. I loved it.

  • I read this book, which is technically the first in a character series, after reading the second book (you’ll see more on that below). Andrea Cooper’s world is turned upside down when she and her mother are involved in a mass shooting at a coffee shop. Suddenly strange men are coming after her mother and Andrea is on the run, trying to stay hidden while also trying to figure out what her mother is hiding,

It was a fine palate cleanser book that kept me interested, but didn’t blow me away. Overall I enjoyed the second book following Andrea, “Girl, Forgotten,” more than this one.

  • This is the second book with character Andrea Cooper in it. I read these out of order but that didn’t have a huge bearing on the story. Girl, Forgotten follows Andrea upon graduating from the Marshall’s Academy and embarking on her first assignment: solving a cold case murder that may have involved her father. In the process, she discovers even more crime happening in this small beach town.

This was one of those books which hooked me correctly because I wanted to figure out whodunnit. I enjoyed it and like Andrea better in this book as she’s become a bit more confident.

  • Let me say from the outset, this is one of my favorite books of the year. If you’ve been hesitating to pick this one up, I’m here to tell you it lives up to the hype.

Sadie and Sam meet as children and bond over their love for escaping into the stories found in video games. They fall out, but find each other again in college, when they rekindle their friendship and decide to try their hand at making their own video game. They’re launched into success quickly. The book spans thirty years of their lives and explores friendship, grief, fame and our need to connect and be loved.

Five stars for this brilliant book.
